Artists run in the family. My Grandfather came home from WWI and painted and my Uncle and Cousin were artists at Corning Glass. I knew early on that drawing and being creative was in my DNA. I majored in Art as well as Math and Science in high school, but it was winning the Hallmark Gold Key award my senior year, and my art teacher, that moved me toward a career in Art Education. I taught art for the next 31 years and that was exactly where I was suppose to be! I love children and saw just how art fulfilled their deep need for individuality and creativity. Through those teaching years I was always yearning for my own time to paint, to bring my vision to the canvas. I painted when I could, participating in shows across the country, even taking a sabbatical, but it was teaching that was where the universe wanted me. Well now is MY time! My work is an extension of my soul, my inner vision, an outward message that appears on canvas, dream like, emotionally symbolic. I close the eyes in my portraits to symbolize that when we go inside, that is where our soul exists. The lines started as a surface pattern then took on a life of their own and became topographical in nature. Portrait commissions in this style are welcomed. Tours of my studio here in the finger lakes, and to see my current work in person, are by appointment.
